Today I will be showing you how to make a simple necklace from copper given to me. Hurricane Michael, hit the panhandle of Florida in 2018, and tore all the copper roof flashing from a home in Panama City. The copper could no longer be used and was given to me. The patina and color of the copper is from years of work protecting the roof of a house. Now you can make it into a piece of jewelry to wear.
- First, all of the raw edges must be sanded or filed smooth, use your block of wood to support the piece of copper, and to hold the edge off the side to file and sand.
- Use the round file to smooth the hole for your string, so it won’t cut it apart.
- Use the various tools on the table to make marks in the metal, in a pattern you want.
- Use sandpaper in various grits to smooth the copper and bring out the design you hammered into the metal.
